GEMS
GEMS is an international organization of girls’ clubs whose roots are in the Reformed tradition.  GEMS stands for "Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior". In Worthington, our club is for girls in 2nd through 8th grades and meets twice a month on Wednesdays. Typically, our meetings begin with group singing and devotions to orient our minds and hearts towards God and each other.  Then, we split into age-level classes for a craft and a Bible lesson.   Our theme for the 2017-2018 year is "In HIS steps". 1 John 2:6 states  "Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did." Girls are discovering more about what it means to have a life shaped by the love, character and ways of Jesus. We first listen to His Words, then follow His lead by walking in  His steps. Living for Jesus isn't just about obeying rules and instructions, it's about living like Jesus.   2nd-4th grades are learning about "Hearts Reaching out to Others'. This study is about God's love for them and people around them. 5th-6th grades are learning about "Kingdom Girls-Getting Real with God". This study is helping each girl understand she has a place in God's Kingdom, is valued and loved. 7th-8th grades are learning about "True Beauty". The study of both inner and outer beauty, character and making wise choices.   During craft time, girls develop their creativity and complete projects they may use to bless others or enjoy themselves. Some crafts can be used towards earning a badge, or girls may have to learn a new skill to earn a badge. Some favorite badges have been sewing, ice skating, cake decorating, etiquette and flower arranging.   Participating in GEMS allows women and girls to live out the Biblical model of mentoring. In his letter to Titus, the Apostle Paul instructs older women to teach younger women, to model godly living and to provide an example for them to follow. It is our prayer that our counselors will be faithful in helping to raise up the next generation of girls who love their Savior.
